The Unfolding: As Told By Ginger

Spread the love

“As Told By Ginger” is the name of my favorite TV show from the 90’s. Also the original name of this blog before I realized the potential of trademark issues and that getting sued isn’t just something that happens on television when lawyers exclaim, “You’ve been served” and run out of a room. Anyway, if you’ve read my “About Me” section (which I hope you have because I put an awful amount of time into summarizing my entire existence for one short paragraph), you know that I can be summarized by these few traits:

  1. I am not the girl from Brave
  2. I have a passion for traveling
  3. I have a passion for dogs (despite my already extreme level of exhaustion with veterinary school)
  4. I have definite interest in taking my doctor’s advice and trying to up my Vitamin D levels (i.e. go hiking)
  5. I am not the girl from Brave

As my first quarter of vet school comes to an end, I, in addition to my 120 classmates, anxiously await our end-of-term grades. Will we pass the first semester of anatomy only to have to take two more semesters in our first year and increase our overall schedule to a frightening 19.5-credit load? Only time may tell. Either way, in exactly ten days from now, I will be on a flight from sunny Arizona to spend my winter break at the Jersey Shore. Now, it’s not as bad as you’re all probably thinking. Yes, my neighbors are old school Italian. Yes, one of my cousin’s neighbors starred on the show “Mob Wives” (and alright, her husband took a page from Teresa Giudice’s book and ended up in prison). Yes, one of my friends goes to Snooki’s gym. However, the one thing you will never complain about is the lack of authentic Italian food (and you will come to realize this is the only thing you will miss about New Jersey when you actually move out of state). Seriously, living in Jersey teaches you that good Italian food will never be found at Olive Garden, and that good pizza will never come out of Little Caesar’s kitchen – which is a belief that many of my new Arizonian friends seem to uphold. Although I definitely don’t miss the smell of refineries in the “Garden State” as I make my way through NJ turnpike traffic (which, in my opinion, is almost on par with LA traffic), I will always have a special love for Jersey, for better or worse.

Another millennial in her 20's who's trying to figure out how to be an adult and decided to start a blog about it. I'm really just trying to find the hiking trails where I can meet the most dogs.
